Guru Granth Sahib Jee's Satkaar is more important then anything else

It was the year of 1976, and Akhand Keertani jatha had a Kirtan Programme and Mehta Sahib. Akhand Paat Sahib Had Happened , but Guru Sahib had not been taken to sukhasan asthaan because a rehansabai was going on. At around 12 am that night, Sant Kartar Singh Jee and many other singhs ( sant jarnail singh etc.) were on the top of the langar hall building of Mehta Headquaters. Sant kartar singh jee were resting on a Manjaa at the time. All of a sudden the Manjaa toppled over and Sant Kartar Singh Jee fell on the ground. All the singhs were shocked at how the bed toppled over without sant jee moving or any one pushing it. Sant Jee without saying anything ran to the Diwaan and all the other Singh's followed.

Sant Jee told his Garrwai Singh to wash his feet. While the Kirtan was going on Sant jee did Sukhasan, Took Guru sahib jee to the Sukhasan Asthaan, brought another saroop of guru sahib then did parkaash. When Sant Jee went back into the diwaan, they did the following bachan to all the sangat there. That Guru Gobind Singh jee themselves got Sant ji by the ear and threw him off the manjaa and said , ' Kartaar Singh , you are the sewadaar of this place. It is your duty to do my sewa, but you are lying on a bed while Guru sahib Has been parkash for the past three days and sukhasan still had'd been done tonight. At the time Sant Ji were very upset and kept asking forgiveness at the Feet of satguru. They said to the sangat - Guru Granth Sahib Ji are God on Earth but why can't we even do their Satkaar properly? They are Akaal Purakh Vaheguru's Sargun form, blessing us moorakhs with their darshan.

Baba Attar Singh Jee

In the Sikh Panth we have three types of Mahapursh. Daane, Diwaaneh, Mastaaneh. Daane Mahapursh always stay in maryada, so the sangat in turn keep it. They come for the 'Bhalaa' of mankind.

Sant Baba Attar Singh Jee are one of the greatest mahapursh of the Sikh Panth. They were ' maryada purshotam.'

- During Shabad kirtan Sant jee never sat on any special seat etc but sat in the sangat.

- They would never travel in a special made carriage etc when sangat was doing shabd keertan.

- They refrained people from touching their charan , matha tekh. They used to say that only say fateh to me when you see me, especially in maharaj's hazuri. In Guru Sahib's Hazuri it is against maryada to do matha tekh to any one. To prevent anyone doing matha tekh to them Sant Jee always used to sit in Guru Maharaj's Taabiya.

In this way Sant Jee was able to do mass amrit parchaar. Throughtout Punjab and the rest of India, it is said the Sant ji made 14 Hundered thousand people Amrit dhari. Sant Jee were always ready to do amrit sanchaar, and also there way of parchaar was very simple. They never forced anyone to take amrit , the way they did there parchaar, or the way their Partaap just effect people made people join into the Khalsa fauj. They used to say ' Amrit is Guru Nanak Dev Jee's ' jahaaj ' or ship , and those who come aboard that ship will cross the world Ocean. Amrit is the seed of Naam Ras , Amrit Ras and Bir ras. ' Sant ji also discouraged Kirpaan da amrit for women and started khande di amrit for everyone. Som people used to say to sant ji that we want to take amrit from you hands. Sant jee used to laugh and say that any rehitvaan 5 singhs are Dasam Paatshah's roop. Dasam Patshah themselves give amrit to the abhilaakhees!

Sant Gurbachan Singh jee’s Abhyaas of Gurbani

One time Sant Kartar singh ‘premi’ asked sant Gurbachan Singh ji that any line we give from Guru Granth sahib you can automatically tell us which’ Ang ‘ it is on, how did your abhyaas of Gurbani get to this extraordinary stage? Sant ji said that before coming to Sant Baba Sundar Singh Ji he had done over 500 Sehaj Paats. This is something we all need incorporate into our lives; doing sehaj paat of Sat guru Granth Sahib Daily. If we ask any random Sikh, even many amritdharis, we see that many people have not even done Darshan under the Ramala sahibs of Guru jee, Let alone doing Complete darshan of Guru jee ( Sehaj paat.)

One time, when Sant jee were abit younger, they went to Singhawale Pind to do akhand paat raul. After doing their raul, Sant jee went to his Aasan and layed down and went to sleep. From the exact Pangti, ang they left their raul at, they started doing paat from there from memory in their sleep.

One time Sant ji went to Pind Rode to do Sri Akhand paat Sahib. Baba Hazara Singh, the elder brother of Sant Ji was also with them. Sant Jee did raul from 2am to 4am and then went to go to rest. Sant Ji had left his raul at this Pangti:

aapae aap varathadhaa piaaraa aapae aap apaahu

My Beloved Lord Himself pervades and permeates all; He Himself is, all by Himself.
While sleeping he started Paat from this exact pangti where he had left off. They read many angs. Bhai hazara singh brought all the other paati singhs and they were all left shocked at how Sant ji’s abhiaas of Gurbani was so advanced. When Sant ji was around 7 Years of age they had become a very good paati. Nowadays many people undermine Paatis, but being a proper paati is quite an accomplishment. Only such person can be called an Akhand Paathi who can do at least 60 angs in 2 hours i.e. one ang in 2 minutes. There is no easy way to become a Paathi. To be a Paathi, either one has to have Kamaayee from previous Janams, or pure Kirpa of Guru Sahib or do it the regular way - Hard work.

Before coming to Sant Baba Sundar Singh Jee , Sant Gurbachan Singh Jee used to to 5 nitnems everyday. Sant Sundar Singh Jee told them to do 1 themselves and listen to another from any singh. When asked why they did so many nitnems, their reply was that any nitnem I missed from childhood or when i was ill etc i am doing them now.

mai gurabaanee aadhhaar hai gurabaanee laag rehaao 8

Bhai Fauja Singh Shaheed, Sant Kartar Singh Jee, And Sant Harnam Singh Ram pur Khera

There was a very loving relationship. Sant Giani Kartar Singh jee used to have a lot of love and respect for him. He would spread his hazooriya on the ground for him (Bhai Sahib) to sit on.It was in those days that some mischievous people disrespected Sree Guru Granth Sahib jee in Gurdwara Guru Kay Mehal and he (Bhai Sahib) had arrived there along with his companions. The incensed mob threw rocks
and bottles of acid at the Singhs. Their clothes burnt off but their bodies were alright. After this incident, we along with the Bhindravala Jatha took out a march through Amritsar and at this time Sant jee gave his full support.It was also at this time that we would go to Mehta Chownk to do Akhand Keertan. Sant Giani Kartar
Singh was very opposed to human Gurudoms and because of this, he (Bhai Sahib) had a lot of love for him. To stop the Narakhdari attacks, we started a common front.And in addition, he also had a lot of love for Sant Baba Harnam Singh Rampur Khaeray vaalay. One time Sant jee came from Khaera Sahib to Sree Amritsar and his avasthaa
was very vairagi. I met him in Guru Ram Das Saraa(n) and I asked him to
come to our home. Sant jee had not eaten for four days.He (Bhai Sahib) said to Baba jee, "Baba jee, please give my message to Guru Gobind Singh jee" Baba jee replied, "Alright son, I'll give it." What that message was, I didn't know nor did he ask.The next day Sant jee said, "Son, I gave your message to Guru Sahib. Guru Sahib has said, "So Sikh sakhaa bandhap hai bhai jo gur kay bhaanay vich aavai." "At that time I didn't understand what Guru Sahib's bhaanaa was. When he became shaheed though, I understood everything about what bhaanaa Sant jee was talking about.

The Great Gursikh Jeevan of Baba Khajaan Singh

Baba Khazaan Singh were the father of Sant Sunder Singh Bhindranwalay (11th Jathedhar of Guru Ji's Damdami Taksal). Sant Sunder Singh jee Bhindranwaalay was a great Gursikh who led an exemplary life, did massive parchaar of Sikhi, inspired countless to take amrit and taught Gurbani and Gurbani meanings to countless students, in his short life of 42 years or so. While many have heard about the Gurmukhi life of Sant Sunder Singh jee, few are aware of how great his father was. This is a feeble attempt by this insect to write something on the great life of Baba Khazaan Singh jee.

This is based on Dr Sher Singh's book on Sant Sunder Singh, Sant Gurbachan Singh's coverage of Sant Sunder Singh's life and oral narrations from Gursikhs from time to time.



Baba Khazaan Singh was the middle son of Baba Makhan Singh the grandfather of Sant Sunder Singh jee. Here are some highlights of Baba jee's jeevan:

1) Baba jee was a simple farmer who worked hard to earn bread for his family. He was from village Bhinder Kalan in Ferozepur district of Punjab.

2) Baba jee was extremely honest. He never let even a grain not belonging to him, come to his home. While working in his fields, he used to constantly do Naam Simran and Gurbani paath.

3) He got married to a very Gurmukhi bibi Mata Taab Kaur jee. She was not educated but due to her husband's satsangat, she developed keen interest and love for Gurbani.

4) Baba jee had great urge to have darshan of Guru Sahib. In year 1887, a year before the birth of Sant Sunder Singh jee, at the time of Avtaar Purab of Siri Guru Nanak Dev jee, Baba jee decided to go all out for darshan of Guru Sahib. He committed to doing strict amritvela and doing one Siri Sukhmani Sahib standing on one leg, 3 hours and 45 minutes before sunrise. Just few days had passed while engaging in day night paath like this that Baba jee was hit with extreme Bairaag. He gave up all interest in world and started doing bhajan day and night. At the behest of some gursikhs, who asked him to come in Sehaj Avastha, he started taking care of his worldly duties again.

5) Before the birth of Sant Sunder Singh, Baba jee did 36 lakh (3.6 million) jaap of Mool Mantr.

6) Later in his life he did 125,000 jaap of Siri Jap jee Sahib.

7) Later in his years he did 101 Paaths of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee in the span of 3 years. This means about 3 Sehaj paaths a month. Along with this he did 36 lakh paaths of Mool Mantr, all within 3 years. This means massive paath a day, for three years.

8) He used to do at least 100 angs worth of baani a day.

9) He used to do 3300 jaap of Mool Mantra a day.

10) He had about 100 angs of baani fully memorized.

11) He used to wear only Khaddar.

12) He was a very strict amritdhaari.

13) He never let a day pass without going to Gurdwara Sahib.

14) He used to eat only once a day at 10am.

15) Before eating food, he used to look for someone to share with. Reading the life of Baba jee, I was surprised. So much kamaayee and no one knows his name. I have no doubt that even today there are many gupt gursikhs out there about whom we know nothing. Hearing about kamaayee of Baba jee I feel like putting my nose in a chapnee and dying. May Guru Sahib do kirpa on us and may we lead our life like Baba jee and other great gursikhs.
